From 18 to 21 October 2022, the Paris 2024 team showcased their plans for a new era of Olympic and Paralympic Games. They embraced the recommendations of Olympic Agenda 2020. Their commitment is highlighted by their goal to deliver the world’s first climate-positive Games. They aim to cut emissions linked to the events by 50 percent compared to previous editions.

A major factor in achieving this goal is a cost-effective and compact venue concept – 95 percent of Paris 2024 venues are existing or temporary. Many of these venues were featured on the World Press Briefing venue tour, including:

Earlier in the week, the opening Plenary Session took place at Le Palais des Congrès de Paris, which will serve as the Main Press Centre during the Olympic Games. This meeting provided attendees with an overview of the progress made by Paris 2024. It also gave updates on several topics, including accommodation, accreditation, transport, press, and photo operations. Additionally, it highlighted upcoming key milestones, such as the launch of ticketing and hospitality sales and the opening of the volunteer recruitment process.

Media’s Role in the Paris Olympics

Attendees also received an overview of the Ceremonies. During the World Press Briefing, Paris 2024 confirmed plans for the Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony. This builds on the Games slogan – “Games wide open” – and follows the announcement that the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony will be held on the river Seine.

Participants welcomed the four days of activities. Representatives from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Paralympic Committee, the Organising Committees of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, and the Olympic Games LA28 also attended. Around 90 representatives from National Olympic Committees and the summer sports International Federations joined on the ground and remotely.

The final Paris 2024 World Press Briefing will take place later in 2023. The Olympic Games will run from 26 July to 11 August, and the Paralympic Games from 28 August to 8 September.
